Control Automation Sharing and Access

Choose who can edit an automation by sharing it with members, teams, or every member.

Share an automation to choose who can edit it. Everyone who can read a dataset can read the automations in it, so sharing controls who can change or delete them.

Understand Permission Levels

When you create an automation in Dash0, it is shared with you. Admins can always edit automations created in Dash0, and nobody can remove that access.

Share an Automation

You need edit access to change who an automation is shared with.

  1. Open the automation and select Share.
  2. Add the members or teams that should edit the automation. Members and teams always get edit access, because they can already read it.
  3. To let every member edit the automation, set the Member role to Edit. Set it back to Read to take that away.
  4. Select Save.

To check the result, open Share again, or open the Automations tab of the team or member.

If you can't edit the automation, Share shows who can, so you know who to ask for edit access.

Remove Edit Access

Remove the member or team from the list in Share, then select Save. They keep read access.

You can remove anyone, including the automation's creator and yourself. If you remove yourself, ask another editor or an admin to share the automation with you again.

Existing Automations

Automations that existed before sharing was available stay editable by their creator and by admins. Other members can read them until someone shares edit access with them. If the creator has left your organization, ask an admin.

Automations Managed as Code

Automations managed with Terraform or the Dash0 operator are changed in code. Sharing them in Dash0 does not give anyone edit access.

See What Is Shared with a Team or Member

In Settings → Teams or Settings → Members, select a team or member and open the Automations tab. It lists the automations shared directly with that team or member, with the dataset and creation date of each. Automations shared with every member through the Member role don't appear there. Select an automation to open it.
