Mirco Kater

Mirco Kater is Head of Security at Dash0, where he leads all things security and compliance, helping build a strong security foundation as the company and its observability platform scale.

He started his career on the hands-on side of security, working with SIEM systems and next-generation firewalls before moving into security consulting and expanding his focus to data protection. In that role, he advised organizations ranging from small businesses to large enterprises on their security challenges.

In 2018, he joined Instana, where he built and led the security program from the ground up through the company’s acquisition by IBM in 2021. It was also at Instana that he was first introduced to the world of observability and met many of the people who would later become founders, team members, and advisors at Dash0.

From 2022 onward, he helped shape the security program at Gitpod, a cloud development environment (CDE) platform that later rebranded as Ona as it shifted its focus toward agentic software development, and was ultimately acquired by OpenAI. In May 2026, ready for a new challenge, he reunited with many of his former colleagues at Dash0.
